Noodlehead Buckthorn Backpack and Tote Paper Pattern
The Buckthorn is a zippered top backpack and tote for everyday use or for holding your projects on the go. It features an easy access front pocket, a divided interior pockets for neat organization, a flat base, an easy to grab top handle and an adjustable strap for the backpack.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Recommended Fabrics: Canvas or waxed canvas (7-10 oz.) for exterior fabric, quilting cotton for lining.
Finished Dimensions: Backpack: 13” wide by 5 ½” deep (measured at oval base), 14” tall. Tote: 10 ½” wide by 6 ½” deep (measured at oval base), 11 ½” tall.
Fabric Requirements:
Backpack:
Exterior fabric = 0.75 yard
Lining fabric = 1 yard
Fusible woven interfacing = 1.5 yards
Fusible fleece interfacing or foam = 0.5 yards
Tote:
Exterior fabric = 0.75 yard
Lining fabric = 1 yard
Fusible woven interfacing = 1.5 yards
Fusible fleece interfacing or foam = 0.5 yards
Staff Notes:
If using waxed canvas (7-10 oz.) for exterior, omit fusible fleece/foam and do not interface the exterior fabric pieces. The heavier the waxed canvas, the more difficult it makes this particular project to sew. If using canvas (8-10 oz.) for lining, reduce fusible woven interfacing requirement to ½ yard total for backpack (strap reinforcement strip & front pocket pieces), omit for tote.
